Mineralogical analysis of rock and ore samples provide valuable information supporting their geological and forensic interpretation and evaluation of hydrocarbon and gemological properties. Mineralogy provides information on the nature of natural and synthetic materials and focuses around the chemistry and physical properties of crystalline products.

Quantitative analysis, estimation and mapping of mineral constituents, detrital and biogenic quartz down to 3 nm spatial resolution (accommodating up to 2.7 cm diameter core samples currently), heavy mineral species, automated identification and quantification of mineralogy data to match wireline log response curve.
Mineral maps to visualize distribution of minerals within the samples and / or lamination and distribution of clays. Modal and textural mapping of minerals help identify various mining parameters that allows for grind size estimation, controls liberation, identifies unwanted sulfide gangue material and help fix clay related grinding problems among others.
Unique high resolution phase corrected plane polarized reflected light (PPRL) microscope connected with 18MP full color video camera to study polished thin sections (either customer supplied or made in house) to produce petrographic descriptions that encompass mineralogy, textures, rock types and paragenesis, and automated modal analysis of samples to show distribution of minerals. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and XRay diffraction analysis are often carried out, in conjunction to PPRL, to overcome some of the limitations of optical microscopy.
Automated digital imaging system is used to search for sparse mineral, for example, gold, or silver on polished grain mount. This analysis can be done in conjunction of PPRL and WDS imaging on sized or unsized samples and provides details in terms of liberation, association and grain size of target metals or minerals.
Quantitative lithotyping and lithological data on mineralogical samples can be made available case by case basis based on customer’s requirement. Please contact us for details.
Grain density data are calculated based on actual mineralogical mapping of the sample and of each lithotypes encountered. Bulk grain density data can be calculated from the combined information of PPRL and SEM images.
Macroporosity data can be estimated from EPMA images, meso-to microporosity data can be estimated from backscattered SEM images whereas, both can be comprehensively measured using gas adsorption porosimetry (see Porous materials characterization services section for details).
